i really love this collage. it has a special home. it is a piece of recycled naturally patinated roof flashing that looked like a mini rothko painting. i saved it for years, until deciding to grow it into a mixed media drawing. it is stitched and bound on matboard. i used oil pastel to extend the drawing onto the matboard without drawing on the metal.

This artwork was commissioned to cover a hole on the wall left by a removed intercom cover. i loved this project. it included numerous techniques and and mostly repurposed materials. i pretty much stuck to my plan as you will see in the next black and white photo.

i made this the day after i had to say goodbye to ruby. she was my shadow. the stitched brass tube holding some of her hair, (although creepy to some folks) , offered me comfort.

dogtag and dog license converted by request into a necklace.
necky was ruby’s pal. he had a shocking and untimely death. that night, upon receiving the news, i went into my studio, crying, and this happened. i gave it to my friends, the next day, hoping to help comfort them. making the piece certainly helped me through a sad night.
overall with driftwood, this measures about 6” x 8”.

i view my boxes as treasure that may hold treasure.
